Detailed information

Product detailed description

Japanese KIYA #8000 water whetstone with cedar base for extra sharpness

KIYA Japanese Water Sharpening Stone will breathe new life into your knives! Your kitchen, cooking and hunting knives will get the sharpness you've always dreamed of. They will be much sharper than when you bought the knives. There is no need to soak this water grinding stone - just pour a little water on it and the grinding can begin. Synthetic abrasive stones are generally made of aluminum oxide. This is the same abrasive material used in oil grinding stones. The difference between the two, however, is the binder that holds the abrasive together in the stone.

Water abrasive stones are softer than oil abrasive stones, allowing for faster grinding. During the grinding process, the old abrasive material is broken off and replaced with fresh sharp material. Faster grinding is clearly an advantage of water grinding stones. Another obvious advantage is the use of water rather than oil to remove metal chips from the grinding stone. However, the water grinding stone is not perfect. The softness of the grinding stone, which promotes faster grinding, results in faster wear. Wear is also uneven and requires frequent straightening of the grinding surface. For this purpose, you can find the comparison blocks in the grinding accessories section.
